Victorian Staffordshire Pottery Pearlware Spaniel Wally Dogs c1855 PAIR White

PLEASE ASK FOR A SHIPPING/POSTAGE QUOTE BEFORE PURCHASE THANK YOU!

Pair of Victorian Staffordshire, Flatback Spaniel, Mantle or Wally Dogs, 26cm. White with good faces , the gilding has mostly rubbed off. Overpainted enamels in good order. In Good general condition with some crazing, some quite deep craze lines, some inclusions, and firing separations, plus other manufacturing flaws. There is lot of fake Staffordshire pottery on eBay. Please note these are 100% authentic pieces. Made in two part moulds these have seem lines where the two parts were pushed together. They are reassuringly heavy. There are some firing flaws, along the front base a seam has opened slightly. A few other seams have also opened during firing. All secure though and all very normal. One of the dogs has an area of manufacture damage. However, it has been glazed with Pearlware glaze which gives it that characteristic grey hue. It isn’t cracked because I’ve tapped it and it rings fine. The other side is also damaged during manufacture. This is absolutely not been restored. The gold has worn but the faces are nice and clean with very little wear to the over painted enamels. There is some unobtrusive crazing to the Pearlware glaze, some do look like hairlines but I think they are just deep craze lines. A few nips of pottery missing from the base. Some manufacturing inclusions all very normal for this type of produce. A very attractive pair.

Could be Scottish. Under-glazed enamels - some of the enamel has run but this is quite a common thing found in this type of ware. Manufacturing flaws to both, firing cracks that are stable. Glaze inclusions and touches. Glaze crazing. Small firing vent. Mould lines and heavy weight. This is part of their charm. Small size - 4.75 inches x 2.75 inches x 1.75 inches.

PAIR Good Quality Antique Staffordshire Pottery Stag Doe Deer Figurines - c1800

PAIR Good Quality Antique Staffordshire Pottery Stag Doe Deer Figurines - c1800

A delightful duo of deer. Myrna Schkolne’s assigns this specific set of models to the Patriotic Group Active 1810 - 1830. As shown in one of the photos taken from her excellent Volume 3. These beautiful figures have open bases which is another indicator of early Staffordshire, you can also clearly see these are made from clay with all the individual elements added to form these these spectacular pieces. There is some good restoration to the bocage and I think possibly the stag’s antlers and the die’s ear looks to have been reattached, but I’m not entirely sure what else as they display well and it has been sympathetically done. A lovely early pair of recumbent stag and doe deer with highly detailed bocage with flowers and sprigs. All these elements were made in moulds and applied as individual elements. Nicely painted pair. They measure approx. 13cm high 10cm wide.
